A word about politeness
Ketika meminta izin untuk melakukan sesuatu yang biasanya menggunakan kata “Please” untuk membuat permintaan yang terdengar lebih santun. Hal ini sebenarnya tidak perlu dan tidak diatur dalam tata bahasa inggris dalam menggunakan kata “ Please” tetapi akan terdengar kasar jika kita tidak menggunakan kata “ Please” kata Please dapat diletakkan di tempat yang berbeda dalam kalimat; bisa di awal, akhir atau bahkan sebelum kata kerja:
Perhatikan contoh.
- Please can I borrow your pen?
- Can I please borrow your pen?
- Can I borrow your pen, please?
Dan sebenarnya yang terpenting untuk menunjukkan kesopanan adalah dengan mengatur nada, suara dan intonasi suara kita yakni dengan suara yang lembut dan tidak kasar. Dan akan lebih pas lagi jika dengan suara halus dan dilengkapi dengan kata “ Please”
